About
City of Benicia
A hidden gem of the San Francisco Bay Area, Benicia is located between San Francisco and Sacramento on the Carquinez Strait. As a waterfront city of 28,000, Benicia is known for its small-town charm, history and high quality of life, offering an abundance of leisure and recreational activities for all who live, work and play in Benicia.
Benicia boasts an exceptional park system, nearly 2,000 acres of open space that is central to the community’s character, and an extensive trail system that includes shoreline trails, regional trails, and a range of local open space trails that offer stunning views from Benicia’s shoreline and rolling hills.
Parks and Community Services Department
The Benicia Parks & Community Services Department is committed to improving the quality of life in Benicia by offering a variety of recreational experiences, providing quality facilities and services, protecting natural and historic areas, and developing educational opportunities throughout the City. The department believes in teamwork and providing collaboration with our community partners, striving to provide a culture of enjoyment, fun and celebration.
The Parks Division of the Parks & Community Services Department manages 28 parks totaling approximately 700 acres, including a 577-acre regional park and a 50-acre community park, all of which is managed under a system Master Plan that was adopted in 1997. Much of the infrastructure within the City’s parks have surpassed or are approaching the end of their useful life. The Master Plan will serve as a long-range planning and asset management document that provides a framework for understanding the financial investments needed to maintain and improve the parks, trails and open space assets the City owns. The plan will provide a better understanding of the current and future maintenance needs and a capital improvement program to guide reinvestment.
